AM LIT: Emily struggles with letting go of people throughout her life, and the ending reveals the extreme length she went to in order to keep Homer with her. Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change?

 People might struggle to let go when someone close to them passes away or walks out their life. For example about 5 months ago my grandfather on my mom side passed away and it affected every one in my family. I still fight the feeling of losing someone who saw me growing most of my life. Not to long ago me and my girlfriend decided to part ways, we are still in contact but the feeling of love still lives in me. This last one is a great example since even though we are not together anymore I still hope that she comes back, but I know that won’t happen. It’s hard to let go of someone who knows everything about you.


Reflection: Sometimes it’s not always the person that who we miss but more like the way they made us feel whenever we were around them, maybe they made us feel safe, loved, care for, or even just seen when we thought we were alone. So it’s really important that we enjoy and appreciate each moment we are with them.


Summary: Learning to move on it’s hard but when you do it you feel a little better and less stressed or anxious.

AM LIT: Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

Reading it aloud at the gathering was nerve-wracking, but seeing my friend’s eyes well up (and hearing a few chuckles at the inside jokes) made all the wrestling with words completely worth it. MULTI LIT: Today, we started our discussion about culture and food. What is one dish from your culture that is a must-have as a representation of your culture? Identify the dish and explain what it is and why it is significant.

For my culture dish I choose  paella , which is this huge rice dish from Valencia, Spain.  It’s basically made with saffron rice and traditionally cooked outside over an open fire in a massive flat pan called a paellera. It’s a perfect symbol for us because it’s historic and also represents how our culture is all about family and sharing. Summary: Paella actually started out as just a cheap, basic lunch for farmers who threw in whatever they had like short-grain rice, chicken, rabbit, and veggies. Everything cooks together in one pan until the rice turns bright yellow from the saffron. Reflection: I chose  paella  because it’s honestly way more than just a random meal, it’s like a whole Sunday event for families kinda like a cook-out here in America. Everyone just hangs out and catches up for hours while it cooks, and then you usually eat it right out of the pan together. It just makes me feel really connected to my roots.
