Multi lit: Troy’s complaint about the unfair job system shows his frustration with racial discrimination. How did this conversation make you think about fairness and opportunity in society today? If you were in Troy’s position, what would you do?

Well, if we take it from another perspective, we can actually use for example the Hispanic community how they have a less of an opportunity in this country how they try and find different jobs jobs that not everyone is willing to take, and this connects to Troy because His job is to pick up other people trash and that’s a job not everyone was willing to take at that time. If I were to be in Troy‘s position, of course I will protest. I will complain about it, but after seeing that, no changes are done. I just let it slide to be honest. Because there’s no point on fighting a war or fight that you know you ain’t gonna win because of the corrupt system. Reflection: most of the time the system will win, but this doesn’t Mean people won’t protest for their rights, especially nowadays where if something unfair happens and the government just continues acting like nothing’s happening. People will protest and will try to change the situation. Summary: Overall In a time where the system mos...

09/22 and 09/24 Multi lit: Now that we have finished reading Fences and you are completing your final project, reflect on your overall understanding of the play. Which character, conflict, or theme has stood out to you the most, and why? Explain how your project represents what you learned about the play.

In my opinion, Troy has to be the one who stands out the most because in the end we didn’t expect him to cheat on his wife and to hide such a big secret from us, although at the beginning of the story, They tell us that he’s seeing someone named Alberta, so Think that she’s just another character someone of not that much importance but towards the end, they tell us that he cheated on his wife with her and we didn’t expect that because even though they told us that he was buying drinks and being flirty, but not quite flirty, and we make an inference from that. Reflection: Sometimes we jump ahead of ourselves and think that a story or something such as a person or a situation my end a certain way, but until we are not given information is that we can actually see what happens. ( I’m sorry I’m in rush) Summary: Troy actually made a huge plot twist towards the end.

09/21 MULTI LIT: At the end of Fences, forgiveness becomes an important part of the characters moving forward. Do you think forgiving someone means you also have to forget what they did? Why or why not? Connect your response to your own experiences or observations.

Forgiving someone most of times people get the wrong idea that you have to forget what they did, but in reality you don’t technically have to forget what they did just have to forgive their actions because not everyone is perfect. We are all humans after all and we all make mistakes at some point in our lives mistakes that might hurt others mistakes that we might regret for a few months, weeks, maybe years but the most important part of forgiving is to learn how to forgive that person and forgive yourself. Because forgiving is like saying, I’m sorry, but if you don’t do it from heart from the very deep of your being, then you might still hold that negative feeling and you don’t have to forget what they did you can remember what they did and forgive yourself for maybe allowing it to happen or maybe not being able to see the whole picture before it happened. Reflection: N/A  Summary: forgive doesn’t mean to forget, forgive means to let go of something.

09/25 AM LIT: Today, you continued working on your "The Life You Save May Be Your Own" PowerPoint project. Think about the creation process. Which part of creating your presentation has required the most thought or creativity? What choices have you made with your information, images, or slide design to help communicate your understanding of the story? Explain.

I think that the most difficult part of this project has to be slide nine. What is the final message? I would like to say that it’s kind of difficult because in the end everyone has your own opinions, but we don’t really know what the final message is because since the The character gives different ideas or views which makes it a bit difficult. in addition to this, it’s of your own view like some people might have different ideas, different thoughts or my imagine something different for the final message since it relies on your own perspective and on your own thoughts. Reflection: The final message has to be the most difficult part because in my opinion, the images and what you’re trying to understand might be a bit confusing. Summary: The final message has to be the most difficult part of the whole project overall.

09/24 AM LIT: Today, you worked on a PowerPoint presentation based on a character from "The Life You Save May Be Your Own." Do you think creating a presentation like this helps you understand a story and its characters better than a traditional worksheet? Why or why not? Explain your answer

I think creating a PowerPoint like this helps uncertain parts of the story to understand the characters because along the story if you use STEAL you can understand a character. For example, I had Mrs. Lucynell and along the story, you can understand how she is who she is and the type of person she is. Overall, the PowerPoint just gives us more like imaginary view of how the story is.  Reflection: Overall, the PowerPoint works if you were trying to see or have another perspective of the story. Summary: The PowerPoint is only useful if you want to have an imaginary image of the story.

09/22 AM LIT: The title “The Life You Save May Be Your Own” suggests that helping or protecting another person may also benefit you. Describe a time when helping someone else taught you something, changed your perspective, or made a positive difference in your own life.

I really don’t have a story we’re helping someone changed my perspective, and the closest thing that get’s to that is when I was helping my dad fix the car. He is always trying to help us understand and view things differently. He thought me that there are somethings we can learn, somethings that we can do, and somethings we can’t fix nor understand and we can either ask someone else for help or just let it be. At first I didn’t understood where he was trying to get, but I guess that he was trying to say that there will be moments in my life where others might help me, moments where I will learn a lesson or two, and moments where I just have to let things go and let them happen. Reflection: People will tell you what to do because they already experienced that and they are just giving you advice on how not to make the same mistake. Summary: As I grow older, I slowly start realizing and understanding What my dad was trying to tell me.

09/21 AM LIT: Have you ever had a first impression of someone that later turned out to be wrong? What made you form that first impression, and what eventually changed your mind? Based on what you have read so far, what first impression do you have of Mr. Shiflet? Explain what he has said or done that has shaped your opinion of him.

When I first met my best friend ( I won’t say names) I thought we had a lot in common, and at first it was like that we were like brothers and always helped each other out. But then I realized that  we were both drifting apart from each other. After I left for a year I almost had forgotten about him, and when I went back to visit him he was way different. That’s when I finally realized that we had both changed and that our friendship was hanging on a thread. Now we don’t even talk anymore and sadly 5 years of friendship were all of the sudden gone. We were just two strangers again. Reflection: People you meet along life may not always stay there no matter how much time you know them. Summary: I understood that people might misunderstand your actions and end up turning their backs on you.

MULTI LIT: Before watching the movie clips, you probably formed your own picture of the characters, their personalities, and how certain scenes would look. Choose one character or scene that appeared differently in the movie than you imagined while reading. What was different, and did the movie change how you understood that character or scene?

The scene where rose and Troy start arguing when Troy reveals that he’s having another baby I thought it was gonna be more like everything in the house the kids watching and them arguing over white Troy did it which inserted part that happened, but not as I would expect it. The movie clips change how I view Troy because in the story or in the book he’s always more like yes really I’ll say aggressive but not as much as in the movie because in the movie clips he is more aggressive in the way he acts. Reflection: I really don’t have good reflection for this one, but I will say that the fact that it goes from story to movie really changed my point of view from all of the stories that I read before and that have a movie Adaptation. Summary: the movie change a lot of things from the book which I didn’t like, but I guess it’s fine.

MULTI LIT: Troy’s revelation changes his relationship with Rose. Do you think one major lie or betrayal can permanently change how you see someone, even if you have known and trusted that person for years? Explain your reasoning and how trust can or cannot be rebuilt.

Something I can Say is that once you cheat on someone doesn’t matter if it’s your friend, your partner that trust in that relationship will never be the same. They will not trust you or see you with the same eyes they did before it’s gonna be difficult because They trusted you with a lot of things in one single mistake such as cheating or telling a secret about them that they only trusted you or just a small group of people can make the difference. Because people will trust you, but once you hurt them, it’s really hard to impossible to gain that trust back because they will not tell you the same things. They will not tell you their secrets because they will be afraid of you doing the same mistake or hurt them again. Reflection: Trust is a very fine and thin strand, which can be broken or snap with anything you do or say. Summary: trust people if you know them very well if you know things that they only told you that way you can defend yourself in case they tell things about you, b...

AM LIT: Imagine someone could learn about you only by looking through your trash can. What three items might they find in your trash today, and what would each item reveal about your personality, habits, interests, or life right now?

I will have to say that if someone would look around the trash and they will find a lot of reading cards and maybe a lot of music notes a lot of songs that I compose, but that never goes out and mainly probably some memories from some people, but I don’t always throw away the Memories or things that people have given me. I normally keep them somewhere in my closet on a shoe box  Reflection: I don’t think people could learn a lot from just looking around your trash. Since most of the time, people either keep things like memories or items that they have been given or ideas that they written on paper. Summary: People won’t learn too much about you just for looking in your trash.

AM LIT: Today, we learned about the two types of characterization: direct and indirect characterization. We then applied what we learned by analyzing characters from James Baldwin’s “The Rockpile” using the STEAL method: Speech, Thoughts, Effect on Others, Actions, and Looks. Now, apply characterization to yourself. If someone were using the STEAL method to characterize you, how would they describe you? Select all parts of STEAL and explain what they reveal about your personality.

Well, if someone were to use STEAL on me, I’ll probably say that the first thing they will notice is my speech the way I talk and my heavy accent because my first language is Spanish so they will probably think oh he is not from around here although I’m born in America my first language or my accent might make people think otherwise. Then I have to say it’s my looks probably my hair and my skin color. They will most definitely think oh he is Hispanic he is maybe from somewhere from central or south America or out west from North America. Then I think we’ll be my actions maybe the things that I like because I like motorsports I like anything that has to do with engines. I like adrenaline I like to take a bit of risk. About my thoughts I don’t really think someone would care about my thoughts, but if it were too, I will say maybe what I’m planning to do in the future. Lastly the effect I have around others might be the fact that I’m always there for people really supportive. I’m alw...

AM lit: In "The Rockpile", John and Roy do not always receive the same treatment from the adults in their family. Have you ever felt that you or someone else in your family was treated differently from everyone else? What caused the difference, and do you think it was fair? Explain.

Yes, I actually know how it feels to not be treated the same way as your other statements, especially when you have younger siblings because you see how your plants treat them better. And yes, they will tell you which you like this at a certain point in life, but like you feel like very are dream that other sibling, better than you. I know it feels unfair, but you have to kind of understand your parents that they’re just like trying to protect or show that little sibling that they will have their attention also because at a certain point you also had your parents attention only for you. Reflection: absent Summary: I feel unfair, but it is what it is because you’re the one who’s gonna get out of the house early

Multi lit: In Scene 4, Troy explains his beliefs about his responsibilities as a father. Beyond providing food, clothing, and shelter, what do you believe a parent owes their child emotionally? Should love, encouragement, friendship, and support be expected, or are those things separate from a parent’s responsibilities?

Well, I believe that a parent should teach or give their child both love and at the same time teach them how to become a better person. For example telling them when it’s right moment to do something and tell them why they should do it and tell them what not to do and show them that it’s OK to get grounded that it’s OK to get in trouble because you learn from this mistake. I support this perspective because my parents have teach me that when I get in trouble they don’t ground me just because they want to they ground me, they do it because they’re teaching me a lesson. They are teaching me not to do that again. Reflection: absent  Summary: Parents will show love and strictness Because they do it for us to not make the same mistakes they once did. It doesn’t have to be our parents they want to have to teach us this because it can even be a teacher. They will try to always teach us the best way how do you think and how to avoid some problems or issues that they already went thro...

Am lit: In “The Rockpile,” the children know that the rockpile is dangerous and that they are supposed to stay away from it, but curiosity still draws them toward it. Think about a time when curiosity or temptation caused you to ignore a warning or rule. What happened, and what did you learn from the experience?

The time I broke my elbow it’s a great example. I still remember how my dad and my brother told me to make sure that my rope was secured to the anchor in the wall. I thought that I was gonna be ok since I had done it before and nothing had happened. Until my foot slipped out of the rock wall and I fell down, by the time I regained consciousness I was at the hospital and the last thing I remember is hearing the anchos snapping of the wall and covering my head with my arms around it. Ever since I realized that there are things that you should never do even if you had done them before. Reflection: Don’t trust life to your anchors when climbing a cliff or rock wall. Listen to the warnings that others give you it might save your life. Summary: Rock climbing it’s fun until you fall from a height of a second story house.

Multi lit: In Scene 4, Troy talks about his past, his responsibilities, and the choices he has made in life. Have you ever had to choose between something you wanted to do and something you needed to do? What influenced your decision, and were you satisfied with your choice?

Yes and that’s almost every day. I for example I don’t want to go to school but I know that it’s my responsibility to go and be there. Or when I want to go out and drive just for fun but I know that I will have to pay for gas and other things if the car breaks down. But I know that I will always put responsibility over my wants because I might want to go on vacations but I also know that I have to pay rent ( example). Reflection: Once an adult you realize that life is more complicated than you think as a teenager. If you aren’t really responsible and don’t put the important things over your wants then life it’s gonna be hard on you. Summary: Life is based on work, paying bills, and having little time for yourself.

AM LIT: September 11 changed many aspects of American life, even though your generation was born afterward. Think about a major event that has happened during your own lifetime, such as the COVID-19 pandemic or another event that affected your community or the country. How do you think your experience with that event helps you understand what it might have been like for Americans to experience the uncertainty and change following 9/11? Explain the connection.

Well throughout my whole life I don’t think there hasn’t been another more impactful event than Covid-19. I remember that when it started everyone thought it was just another variant of the flu until people started to die by the hundreds. It was then when the whole country entered into a national lockdown. This relates to 9/11 in the way that everyone was afraid and scared of what was going to happen. 9/11 made people go out and fight for their country after that attack, many join the army and other branches. Covid-19 made people stay home and avoid an invisible enemy. Reflection: This two events didn’t just impacted the country, it shake the whole world and caused panic everywhere. Summary: Events like this ones are the ones that not even time can erase. They are like Chernobyl, World War I and II, or the Black Death.

MULTI LIT: In Fences, the fence is a physical object, but it can also represent the emotional or personal barriers people create. Think about a “fence” you have built in your own life. What were you trying to keep out or protect yourself from? Did that fence help you or hold you back?

Now probably an emotional fence was when a person left and I decided to put a fence around my emotions. Not only because I didn’t wanted to get hurt but because I also didn’t wanted to be used and seen as a benefit rather than a person. Because when you get hurt and you find out the reason why they left or why they were with you it hurts a lot and makes you build fences to protect yourself. Reflection: Learning to have limits can help you save yourself from getting hurt or mentally overwhelmed. Summary: Fences don’t have to be physical, they can also be emotional or mental.

AM LIT: In Part I of A Rose for Emily, Emily’s house stands out from the community and reflects both her past and the changes happening around her. Think about a house, building, or place that holds special memories for you. What does that place look like, what memories do you connect with it, and what does it represent to you?

If I there is a place that holds a lot of value to me has to be school. Not because I like it but because I met my friends there, I learned new things about my own way of socializing, and I met people that came and stayed and others that just came and left me with a lesson. I’m so grateful with them because each one of them teach me something new and different about life.  Reflection: There are so many places that hold a lot of value to me but nothing compares the things that school thought me. Summary: Learn that everyone and everything in life has sense and purpose. More importantly the people the leave are there to teach us a lesson and make us better.

AM LIT: Emily struggles with letting go of people throughout her life, and the ending reveals the extreme length she went to in order to keep Homer with her. Why do you think some people have such a difficult time accepting loss or change?

People might struggle to let go when someone close to them passes away or walks out their life. For example about 5 months ago my grandfather on my mom side passed away and it affected every one in my family. I still fight the feeling of losing someone who saw me growing most of my life. Not to long ago me and my girlfriend decided to part ways, we are still in contact but the feeling of love still lives in me. This last one is a great example since even though we are not together anymore I still hope that she comes back, but I know that won’t happen. It’s hard to let go of someone who knows everything about you. Reflection: Sometimes it’s not always the person that who we miss but more like the way they made us feel whenever we were around them, maybe they made us feel safe, loved, care for, or even just seen when we thought we were alone. So it’s really important that we enjoy and appreciate each moment we are with them. Summary: Learning to move on it’s hard but when you do it ...

Multi Lit : In Fences, Lyons asks his father, Troy, to lend him money. Do you think adult children should ask their parents to borrow money, or should they be expected to handle their financial problems on their own?

No even I as a 15 year old I would rather look for other options such as looking for a job or waiting for holidays or my birthday. Because I feel like I’m a burden or a weight every time I ask them for money because I know that they have to pay rent, pay bills and buy groceries. I know how hard it’s for them to get the money and I sometimes feel bad because I’m just putting my hand expecting to receive some of their hard earned money. So no even me a 15 year old decides to help his parents pay bills even if just a few hundred dollars now and then. I rather that than looking at my parents struggling.  Reflection: Learning that when you are an adult you can’t run to mom or dad for money unless it’s an emergency, and not all the time it’s an emergency. So learning how to earn your own money it key to a successful independence and helping your parents when they need it. Because independence it’s not only living by yourself but also becoming a responsible adult learning that rent,...

Multi lit: After watching your classmates present their identity masks, think about how people are often more complex than what we see on the outside. What did the presentations teach you about looking beyond the surface when getting to know someone?

It teach me that you don’t always have to make assumptions or stereotype someone because we don’t really know if they are actually like that for example one of my classmates. I didn’t knew that they like rock climbing and at one point in my head, I thought oh he probably likes cars and motorcycles just for the what he talks about and what he posts online. It also teach me that people might like same interest, but they just don’t tell you. Reflection: People might hide who they really are just to get a sense of belonging with others. Summary: It’s OK to wear mask just to connect with others and to feel like you belong with them.

Am lit: In “Because I could not stop for Death,” Emily Dickinson presents life as a journey that eventually comes to an end. What experiences in your life have reminded you that time moves quickly? How have those experiences affected the way you value your time?

Well, it has to be this year that I knew that I was not gonna stay where I was before for too long. I knew that I was gonna move somewhere very far away and I was not gonna see the people that I love and that school and everything that I’m so used to it’s not gonna be the same and I felt like those last three months of school were only three weeks. They felt like three weeks and all the memories and the things that I did, we’re just gonna be stuck in the back of my mind and were gonna be reminded as beautiful things that happened. So I started enjoying that time with my friends with the people that I love and the people that matters in my life I enjoyed every second every day that I had with them because I knew that I was not gonna see them probably in a long time so I was so grateful for every day that I spent with them. Reflection: it’s important to value and to be grateful every day and enjoy every moment with the people the we love and that we care for because we don’t know wh...

Am lit: In “Missing Your People,” Tracy Brower explains the importance of belonging. Describe a time when you felt like you truly belonged. What created that feeling?

Well, this year I feel like I belong and it’s not about how people is or like the new school year or anything like that it’s more about how I see myself and that this year I know it’s my last year and I feel like I’m capable of anything and everything at the same time it makes me feel more connected in a sense of belonging because even though I know little to no seniors, and there’s new faces all over school that gives me a sense of belonging since I was gone from school for a whole year, that makes me start fresh that makes me remember oh I was once like them. I didn’t know no one so makes me feel connected and it gives that sense of belonging again. Reflection: It’s OK to not feel like you’ve been belong somewhere at some point, but if you go back and give it a chance or stay and give it a chance you can actually feel you belong there. You just have to try. not only on the sense that you have to stay there but more like you can get to know more people get to experience more thin...

Multi lit: Write about a fear you have overcome.

I used to be really afraid of the darkness because during my elbow surgery they had me asleep for a whole day so when I woke up again the next day I woke up in shock and confusion. Over the years and less and less surgeries I have learned to overcome this fear

AM LIT: Write about a fear you have overcome.

I used to be really afraid of the darkness because during my elbow surgery they had me asleep for a whole day so when I woke up again the next day I woke up in shock and confusion. Over the years and less and less surgeries I have learned to overcome this fear
