AM lit: In "The Rockpile", John and Roy do not always receive the same treatment from the adults in their family. Have you ever felt that you or someone else in your family was treated differently from everyone else? What caused the difference, and do you think it was fair? Explain.

 Yes, I actually know how it feels to not be treated the same way as your other statements, especially when you have younger siblings because you see how your plants treat them better. And yes, they will tell you which you like this at a certain point in life, but like you feel like very are dream that other sibling, better than you. I know it feels unfair, but you have to kind of understand your parents that they’re just like trying to protect or show that little sibling that they will have their attention also because at a certain point you also had your parents attention only for you.

Summary: I feel unfair, but it is what it is because you’re the one who’s gonna get out of the house early

AM LIT: Talk about a time when you had to write a poem, whether it was for an assignment, event, or special occasion. What was the writing process like for you, and were you proud of the finished product?

Reading it aloud at the gathering was nerve-wracking, but seeing my friend’s eyes well up (and hearing a few chuckles at the inside jokes) made all the wrestling with words completely worth it. MULTI LIT: Today, we started our discussion about culture and food. What is one dish from your culture that is a must-have as a representation of your culture? Identify the dish and explain what it is and why it is significant.

For my culture dish I choose  paella , which is this huge rice dish from Valencia, Spain.  It’s basically made with saffron rice and traditionally cooked outside over an open fire in a massive flat pan called a paellera. It’s a perfect symbol for us because it’s historic and also represents how our culture is all about family and sharing. Summary: Paella actually started out as just a cheap, basic lunch for farmers who threw in whatever they had like short-grain rice, chicken, rabbit, and veggies. Everything cooks together in one pan until the rice turns bright yellow from the saffron. Reflection: I chose  paella  because it’s honestly way more than just a random meal, it’s like a whole Sunday event for families kinda like a cook-out here in America. Everyone just hangs out and catches up for hours while it cooks, and then you usually eat it right out of the pan together. It just makes me feel really connected to my roots.
